Merit Badge University, July 30, 31 & August 1

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - Over 400 Boy Scouts plan to use Stuhr Museum as their base of operations for the 2010 Merit Badge University Friday, August 30 – Sunday, August 1.
During their weekend in Grand Island, the Scouts, who come from all across the region, will have the opportunity to earn over 80 different merit badges both on the museum grounds and around the community. The Scouts and their leaders will fan across the city to learn from local experts in a variety of different fields, and will return to the museum to camp, eat, socialize and work on service projects in the evenings.
This is the third year the Merit Badge University has come to Stuhr Museum, and the formula that worked so well in 2009 will be duplicated this year. On Saturday morning the entirety of the camp will participate in an opening flag ceremony at 6:50 a.m. The organizers have also scheduled water fights, a church service and an evening trip to Island Oasis for swimming.
The Scouts will also be participating in a service project on the museum grounds over the course of the weekend. The group will move bricks currently located at the museum’s “Buffalo Junction” near the Reynolds Administration Center and move them near the Static Train Display around the circular drive. Railroad artifacts will then be moved to that area to enhance the current exhibit.
The museum will remain open during the Merit Badge University, and the public is invited to come out and see the boys at work and play. For more information, feel free to contact the museum at (308) 385-5316.
