Sports and Leisure Weekend

GRAND ISLAND, STUHR MUSEUM - This summer, we want you to come out and play at Stuhr Museum!
Stuhr's biggest weekend of the year, the "Sports and Leisure Weekend," features dozens of ways to explore the games and sports played by our pioneer ancestors. From card games in the parlor of our historic homes to races on the green near Railroad Town's Depot to full sporting events throughout the weekend, games of all types and for all tastes await.
Each of the three days of the "Sports and Leisure Weekend" will focus on a different topic, but each day will include events and competitions for the whole family. Activities include:
Friday - 6-9 p.m.
Family Game Night!

The Stuhr Building will be the site of activities focusing on 1890s and modern board and parlor games. On the historical side, the "Generations of Sport" exhibit features games of skill and chance popular in the 1890s, complete with instructions and all the equipment you'll need for a great night of games, including Skittles, Marbles, Shoot the Moon, Checkers, Carrom and more.
Modern sports such as basketball, boxing, bowling and mini golf will also be available for children as part of the exhibit as well.
For those interested in something more modern, a Wii video game system will be set up in the auditorium, where games such as golf, bowling and boxing are available to try in a digital form Finally, the Kids Corner has puzzles, scavenger hunts, paper dolls, doll houses, dress up clothes and more to really give kids a chance to play.
Special food and drink will be available throughout the evening and game competitions will be set up throughout the evening.
Saturday - 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Sports Old and New

Come outside and play during a day dedicated to sports of all shapes, sizes and skill levels. The schedule includes:
10 a.m. - A 5 Kilometer walk hosted by the Saturday Slimmers beings at the north parking lot near the log cabins and continues around the grounds. Feel free to take a walk with us!
10:30 a.m. - Joel Geyer from NET Television will introduce a screening of "Husker Century" and a 7-minute preview of NET's new documentary "Walk Ons/Huskers' Edge" in the Stuhr Building Auditorium. This film focuses on the early history of the Nebraska Cornhusker football team.
11 a.m. - 2 p.m. - Native American Games near the Pawnee Earth Lodge
1:30 - Vintage Baseball Game at the rural farmstead
The Arbor will feature Lawn Darts and Bocce Ball, and Railroad Town will feature croquet, stilt walking, hula hooping, hoops and sticks, graces and games on the green such as sack races and more. Games will also be available in the Stuhr Building.
Sunday - Noon - 5 p.m.
Group Games

Sunday is focused on games whole groups can play. Each hour, Stuhr staff and local volunteers will present the rules of different games in the auditorium, and then staff will be there to help you play! The schedule includes
Noon - 1 p.m. - Badminton on the Stuhr Building Lawn
1-2 p.m. - Volleyball on the Stuhr Building Lawn
2-3 p.m. - Disc Golf on the Stuhr Lawn and in the Arbor
3-4 p.m. - Croquet and the Skillet Toss in Railroad Town
