Celebrate Independence Day at Stuhr Museum! Enjoy all sorts of traditional celebrations, from a parade down Main Street to a band concert, speeches from historic 1890s programs, games, and so much more!
9:00 am: Stuhr Building opens – be sure to check out our summer exhibit, CRASH! The Great Depression Hits the Heartland
10:00 am: Railroad Town opens & German Language Church Service, presented by the Hall County Historical Society – no admission fee for those who wish to only attend the church service
12:00 pm: Anvil Firing – parking lot between church and Cleary House
2:00 pm: Mammoth Parade down Front Street in Railroad Town. Children are invited to join – meet at the Glade Roller Mills at 1:45.
Following the parade: Silver Cornet Band Patriotic Concert at the Band Stand
Following the concert: Historic Patriotic Program at the Band Stand
Following the program: Games on the green will follow the conclusion of the program. Age groups of 6 & under, 7-11, 12-14, and an open heat will be held for each race, including a foot race, an egg race, a three-legged race, and more!
And: A cherry pie-eating contest sponsored by Perkins Restaurant & Bakery in Grand Island will be held at the Band Stand. Age groups and pie sizes will be: ages 8 & under – 1/6 of a pie; ages 9 to 16 – 1/4 of a pie; ages 17 & older – 1/2 of a pie.
