Summer Adventures classes are designed with activities appropriate for a specific age group. To see which classes are best suited to your child, click their age below! We are able to make exceptions for students who have a birthday within the month of the class. Please note, we are unable to accept 3-year-olds in our preschool classes unless their birthday falls within the WEEK of the class.

Come join us for some fun on the farm! We’ll help with chores by pumping water from the well and scrubbing clothes and hanging them to dry. We’ll also get to plant seeds and tend the garden, and even explore the barn and find out who lives there!

Get your little ones up and dancing! Students will warm up with some animal yoga poses, learn traditional Pawnee dances, and learn how Pawnee dances are inspired by and honor the Earth.

Calling all explorers! Stuhr Museum needs brave students willing to search across the grounds using directions to find pieces of a mysterious puzzle. Compasses, landmarks, and pacing clues will help guide the way each day to complete activities that will bring them one step closer to completing the puzzle!

Pawnee Pinch Pot • AGES 6-8 • 1 day

In this workshop, students will make a piece of Pawnee pottery and learn how they were used by the Native Americans in Nebraska 2000 years ago. They will have a pot to take home by the end of class that they made with their own hands!

Do you love playing pretend and being creative? If so, puppeteering is for you! In this basics class, students will embrace their creativity to invent characters and stories that they will bring to life through puppets! Come one, come all to the greatest show of 1892! We will learn about the circus and put on a one-of-a-kind show where we use our unique talents and skills that make us special! Our show will take place during the last 30 minutes of class on Friday.

A journal has been uncovered at Stuhr Museum that calls for present-day adventurers to travel back to 1891 and help a friend in Railroad Town solve a mystery! Join us as we learn about history, how to act like people of the past, and solve clues.

Do you love nature? Then come and discover with us! We will dive into the way wind, sunlight, and water work together in nature, what humans can do to help leave nature as ‘natural’ as possible, and how we can use nature to better our lives!

Come learn about the power of friendship while experiencing life in a 19th-century cabin! Students will learn about the American Girls Addy and Kirsten through immersive activities like baking biscuits in a wood stove, churning ice cream by hand, making crafts, and playing games inspired by the 1850s and 1860s.

Catch bugs, examine plants, and spot creatures in the water! We will learn about Nebraska vegetation and all the little inhabitants we can find. You’ll get close-up experiences with creatures such as ducks, minnows, butterflies, frogs, and more!

Imagine: it’s the late 19th century, and the Age of Exploration is in full swing. New discoveries and emerging technologies allow explorers and adventurers to push the bounds of the known world, traveling further and faster than ever before. Students will travel the globe while learning about the intrepid men and women who made these journeys, how they got where they were going, and what they found once they arrived!

Students will step into the shoes of Anne Shirley, a character in Lucy Maud Montgomery’s book, Anne of Green Gables, to get a taste of her adventures as a young girl growing up in the 1870s. Students will make a handful of items from Anne’s story and discuss her experience with friendships, school, and moving to a new place.

Whether you’re a beginner or have some fishing experience, this class is for you! We’ll learn about different species of fish in Nebraska and how the weather affects a good day of fishin’. Bring your own pole or use one of ours; bait provided.

Students young and old will discover the amazing creativity involved in the glass etching process! Throughout the week they will view examples of glass etching found on mirrors, window panes, and even vases and jars, and they will learn techniques to create their own works of art, whether they are beginners or returning students.

Hosting a tea is an important event for a young Victorian lady! We will spend the week preparing for a tea party where each student can entertain a guest in grand style. Invitations will be made, linens pressed, and the silver must be polished!

Many years ago, people didn’t get to just make a grocery run anytime they ran out of their favorite ingredients. En plein air means “outdoors”, and that’s where we will be making beautiful artwork! With chalk pastels as a medium, students will use the various outdoor locations of the museum as inspiration for their unique creations.

Students young and old will discover the amazing creativity involved in the glass etching process! Throughout the week they will view examples of glass etching found on mirrors, window panes, and even vases and jars, and they will learn techniques to create their own works of art, whether they are beginners or returning students.

Learn some fun fabric dyeing techniques- participants will walk away with a pair of ice-dyed socks, a Shibori-dyed t-shirt, and a tote bag using a reverse dyeing method. Come dressed in old clothes- we could get messy!
