Then & Now: The Flavors of Grand Island Exhibit at the Grand Island Public Library

Stuhr Museum Brings History to the Heart of the City with “Then & Now: The Flavors of Grand Island” Exhibit at the Grand Island Public Library

GRAND ISLAND, NE — [7/30/2025] — Stuhr Museum is proud to announce the opening of a new exhibit, Then & Now: The Flavors of Grand Island, on display at the Grand Island Public Library from August 1–31, 2025.

This visual exhibit highlights the intersection of past and present by pairing historic images of Grand Island buildings with photos of the immigrant-owned restaurants that now call those buildings home. Each featured restaurant is not only a place to eat, but a reflection of the families and cultures contributing to Grand Island’s evolving story. This exhibit is about honoring our shared history while celebrating the cultural richness shaping Grand Island today.

Before including each business, Stuhr Museum staff connected directly with the current restaurant owners. Their involvement helps ensure the exhibit accurately reflects the present-day businesses and fosters a spirit of collaboration and respect.

The decision to display this exhibit at the Grand Island Public Library is intentional. With limited public transportation options in the city, it can be difficult for all residents to access the museum. By bringing the exhibit into a more central, accessible space, Stuhr Museum hopes to reach new audiences and make our community’s history more available to everyone.

Then & Now: The Flavors of Grand Island is free and open to the public during regular library hours throughout the month of August.
